DO NOT BE FOOLED!
(PEOPLE SENDING COUNTERFEIT CHECKS TO BUY YOUR STUFF...)
A few people have recently reported a possible scam targeting sellers on CallHarry.com.
Although we are not in any way responsible for actions occuring between a buyer
and a seller on CallHarry, we do recommend everyone to excercise caution when
buying and selling anything over the internet. If a payment or transaction feels
suspicious, then it most likely is.
PLEASE READ THE FOLLOWING EMAIL WE RECEIVED FROM ONE OF OUR CUSTOMERS...
Hello. I'm not sure you can do anything about what happened to me through the
callharry website. I'm not at all blaming the site but wanted to report this to
you to possibly warn your advertisers.
I have had my car listed on your site (1982 Firebird) - and for a couple of
months now this person from the states (he claimed) was emailing me saying he
was interested in purchasing it..he said he was a procurement agent and that his
client was interested in my car but that another client owed him money and was
going to send it to me, and i was to draw my money out of it and return the rest
to the shipper in order that he may come to pick up the vehicle.
Friday, March 26, I arrive home from work to find a federal express package
from this person. Enclosed is a Canada Post Money Order for $5000.00 in US funds
- so I was supposed to take the car money (which was ONLY $400.00 CANADIAN) and
then Western Union the rest to someone else.. I got suspicious right away and
so this morning (Monday) when the post office opened up, I phoned and asked them
to verify the money order - gave them the numbers, and they told me it was counterfeit
and that Canada Post only makes money orders for up to $999.99. They are going
to have an investigator contact me and i will probably have to send them the money
order for analyzing. If i would have gone ahead and cashed the money order and
done what they asked me to do, I'd be indebted for $5000.00 US, which is around
6650 canadian. I'm in a horrible situation with my husband almost being killed
in an accident and sustaining head injuries bad enough that he will never work
again, and to almost have lost the little bit i have left for our family would
have killed us.
I'm taking my listing off the site and donating my car to the Fire Department
out here.. not because of the CallHarry site. I believe I have had some honest
inquiries and I thank you for allowing me to use the webspace.
Please take whatever precautions are necessary to ensure your advertisers are
aware of this thing that the post offices are calling "the nigerian scam".
They've apparently cleaned a lot of people out this way..i'm just glad i didn't
cash it.
Sincerely,
ST.
